JAN22: Meet the Makers

We believe that Time is an invisible ingredient, and so the majority of what makes up an IDYLHOUR box is carefully handmade.

Months ago, we began exploring what would make up the perfect January care box. In so many cases, it’s difficult to predict what we’ll need in the future, but this is January and right on the heels of the holiday season. So, we knew we’d need to include products that addressed winter skin woes and calmed us in the post-frenzy downtime that is the turn of the new year.

Speaking of which, aren’t we all more than ready to turn the page? Our process tools this month -- and each product -- were selected to propel us into a bright, spacious and optimistic future.

Come with us, won’t you?

Waterbody Founder Angie Flickinger  is based in Southeast Alaska on a small island called Wrangell, a town of about 2,000 people. Waterbody’s goods are inspired by the wilderness -- forest and ocean -- that surrounds them. Many of the ingredients are sourced locally, relying on Angie’s background in environmental studies and her personal passion for the study and use of the natural, native world around her.

Angie feels “intrinsically connected to, restored, and changed by the natural world” and Waterbody’s wares invite us to share in this wholehearted rediscovery of self. The ethos that guides Waterbody is a fundamental connection between caring for ourselves and the earth, inextricably linked and acting as tributaries towards one another.

In January’s IDYLHOUR box, we’re including:

  • Mermud Soap, made with skin softening wild bull kelp

  • Calm Body Balm, a lightweight balm to nourish the skin and soothe the senses

Founded by Dr. Maria Geyman, Masha Tea is stunningly stylish, unsurprising when you learn it’s the tea of choice at NYC darlings like the Ace Hotel and Whitney Museum. Hand packaged in their Brooklyn studio, Masha Tea works from a space of environmental  impact, beauty and feeling to inform their sourcing choices.

Dr. Geyman seeks to imbue people with the healing and regenerative powers of natural teas, moving away from stuffy notions of high tea and into a more holistic, thoughtful and sensual experience. After studying naturopathic medicine in Portland, Oregon, she left to practice in New York to focus on bringing the foundational principles of natural medicine to the community cycling through the city lifestyle. A proponent of taking good care, Dr. Geyman believes that “for our society as a whole to heal, we need to normalize taking care of ourselves.” Amen.

We’re including two servings of their Mint Tea, because of cooling and uplifting properties.
